What's funny to me about it is how noticeable it was to my family when it started. Although they had never made negative comments about my uptightness before, the first year that I showed obvious improvement, they made comments like, "Wow, you seem so much more relaxed; what's different?"

I had to laugh. I had noticed it too.

Also there were little things that happen at work that used to trigger me. Now, they barely bother me. I don't over react and often am cool as a cucumber.

For someone who doesn't have a lot of the water element in her astrology chart, I've turned in to "grace under pressure" now that I'm hydrated.

It's amazing and so simple.

First Stages of Dehydration - Part 1: Your Brain

Before I understood what dehydration was like for the common man, I had this idea of dehydration being something unusual. Generally, it conjured up an image of some poor soul stranded in the desert without ANY water as opposed to ENOUGH water. Few of us think that we drink enough water, but beyond that we have no sign posts for distress. Once you learn the symptoms of every-day dehydration and realize how obvious they are, you may be shocked. Over the next few blogs, I am going to share how to know when you need more water. Then, I will start to tie dehydration to the originations of chronic illnesses.

The most important part of understanding dehydration is to understand that it is your brain where your water management starts. Your brain HAS to have water and will take it from anywhere in your body it needs to if you are not drinking enough water. Your brain is over 70%constructed with water-laden tissues and sensors. The water conducts electric impulses. When your brain is low on water, it borrows water randomly from muscles, tissues, organs, and bones. Do you ache? Are you irritable? Are you impatient or restless? Do you have mental fog? Is your body or mind tired?

Guess what! A glass or two of mineral water is going to help you change that immediately! The minerals help transmit messages. Water that is distilled or a product of reverse osmosis (the cheapest bottled waters) does not contain minerals for transmitting. So the type of water you choose can make a big difference too.

Next: Part 2: Dehydration Affects Behavior

Diet Sodas Linked to Diabetes

Did you know that in 2009, consumers of diet soda drank over 43 billion cans and bottles?
This total is just for diet drinks; it doesn’t count all the regular sodas that were consumed too. If you’ve been reading my articles for awhile, you already know how toxic I think sodas are whether they are diet or regular versions. Are soda drinkers poisoning themselves?

I just read an article by Dr. Al Sears (www.alsearsmd.com). He’s been researching the latest studies on diabetes. He shared that one recent study says (point blank) that if you drink diet soda every day, you’re 67 percent more likely to develop diabetes.1

Did you know drinking diet soda leads to diabetes? Most of us would probably assume that it is regular coke that is the biggest culprit and that “diet coke” isn’t that lethal.

Not too surprising, the quantity of diet soda you drink impacts your odds also. The study showed that those who drank the most diet soda had a 34 percent greater risk than those who drank the least diet soda.2 That puts us up into the “almost guaranteed” range!

Even the famous Framingham Heart Study (http://www.framinghamheartstudy.org) found that people who drink more than one diet soda a day have a 56 percent increased chance for developing the diabetic metabolic syndrome – that’s the group of risks that give you a greater chance for diabetes, as well as coronary artery disease and stroke.3

For every ONE ounce of soda, it takes 32 times the same amount of 9.5 pH water to neutralize the pH to a healthy range. I have that demo on my Kangen water site at www.501Advantages.com under the video tab. It is shocking to realize how easy it is to undermine a whole day of well-intentioned water drinking with just one or two ounces of soda (yes, any kind of carbonated soda; they were using lemon-lime in the demo).

Sodas make your body acidic-based. Many chronic and life threatening diseases thrive in an acidic environment. Once you decide to find ways to keep your body mildly alkaline, you are much less likely to have incidences of serious illness. Mildly alkaline is 7.2-7.4 pH.

Blood type matters too. I’m a Type O+ and that makes me even more susceptible to acidity because my Type O blood is naturally more acidic than the other types. Drinking soda, coffee or consuming acidic fruits, can potentially take a person’s health down when they don’t realize what they are doing. Another unintentional side effect is in how our body brings it’s pH back up to a healthy level; it borrows calcium to elevate pH from our bones!

Those people you know who are drinking the Big Gulps are turning their bodies into acid-rich petri dishes where illness and disease can grow and wreak havoc on their bodies. Diet coke drinkers can now add to the potential threat of an overly acidic body, the development of life-changing diabetes. This is bad news for our friends who are staunch soda drinkers.

Sources:
1 Nettleton, J.A., Lutsey, P.L., Wang, Y., Lima, J.A., Michos, E.D., Jacobs, D.R. This one decides what’s considered food and what isn’t. It knows what you need for nutrition.

Your “gut brain” processes the antigens (molecules recognized by your system) and has a memory of what it’s supposed to digest, what should just pass through, and what needs to be destroyed.

Problems start when you eat something foreign to your gut. You see, the food industry tells you that processed foods, grain, wheat, and bread are “good” for you. Even the national food pyramid says most of your daily intake should come from grains.

But, what the food industry doesn’t know (or doesn’t tell you) is that your gut doesn’t know what to do with the grain products you eat. And sometimes your body rejects them.

More and more people are showing signs of intolerance to grains and processed foods. And they all have something in common… gluten.

In this month’s Health Confidential, I’m going to tell you how gluten affects your body and what you can do to keep your body strong.

What Is Gluten Anyway?

Gluten is a sticky, gluey protein found in grains like wheat, barley, rice, and rye. This gooey protein is commonly used in baked goods. Gluten holds on to the carbon dioxide made from yeast and expands. It’s what makes dough stretchy, holds cookies together, makes cake rise, and why bagels are doughy.

You can also find gluten in some unlikely places, like pasta, beer, soy sauce, certain medications, toothpaste, and even lipstick.

Who Is Affected by Gluten?

Gluten intolerance was once very rare. But it’s become much more common in modern times.

Where Gluten Can Hide…

Sausage: Most brands of sausage use breadcrumbs as fillers.

Hamburgers: Bread or wheat products are often mixed in for texture.

Ketchup, Ice Cream, and Mayonnaise: Some brands mix in wheat flour for thickness.

Prepackaged Grated Cheese: It’s coated in flour to prevent sticking.

Beer and Whiskey: These alcoholic drinks are made from grains.

Something has changed in our environment to make gluten intolerance more prevalent. It’s directly related to what we put in our bodies.

Gluten isn’t part of our native diet. So it’s natural that our bodies reject it.

Here’s the thing…

Your “gut brain” thinks gluten is a foreign substance. It doesn’t know that it’s meant to be a source of nutrition. So, when gluten reaches your gut, it panics.

Your gut reacts by sending antibodies to attack the unknown substance. This causes your immune system to become hyper alert with auto-immune components. And it can cause your body to attack its own tissue.

When your immune system attacks, it damages the villi (small “fingers” in your small intestine that absorb nutrients from your food), so they can’t absorb what your body needs to live. This can cause your body to destroy its own tissues and shut down.

Leaky gut syndrome, malabsorption, and malnutrition are some common outcomes.

The longer gluten intolerance is left untreated, the worse the outcome can be. Unfortunately, it’s one of the most misdiagnosed conditions out there. The symptoms are very similar to other digestive problems like irritable bowel syndrome and vary from patient to patient.

Common Symptoms of Gluten Intolerance:

Abdominal pain

Bloating

Cramping

Weight Gain or Loss

Constipation

Diarrhea

Alternating Constipation and Diarrhea

If left untreated, gluten intolerance can cause:

Cancer 1

Reduced blood flow to the brain (cerebral hypo perfusion) 2

Vitamin D deficiency 3

Miscarriage 4

Low birth weight 5

E.D. 6

And thyroid disease 7

Getting Back to Basics

Although gluten-free diets are prescribed to people who are gluten intolerant, everyone can benefit from eating less grains and processed food.

When you cut out grains and processed foods, you’re getting back to your native way of eating. This will boost your energy, improve focus, improve digestion, and aid with the absorption of nutrients.

Remember, gluten is found in wheat, rye, barley, bran, wheat germ, buckwheat, millet, and other grains. If you see ANY reference to these types of grains on a food label, steer clear. Not only that, but here’s a list of some additives and ingredients you’ll want to stay away from if you’re eating gluten-free:

Distilled grain vinegar

Malt

Hydrolyzed protein

Instant dry yeast or yeast extract

Food starch

Maltodextrin

Grain alcohol

Rennet

Semolina

Many food manufacturers now put “gluten-free” on their packaging. Coconut flour and almond flour are excellent choices. If you can’t find these, rice flour makes a good gluten-free alternative.

Source: Al Sears, MD, http://www.alsearsmd.com/gluten-and-how-it-affects-your-body/
___________________________________________

Farthing MJ, Rees LH, Dawson AM. “Male gonadal function in celiac disease: III. She has started using 2.5 pH water and finds that it flushes out white heads and dries them up very quickly now. She is also drinking more water to flush out toxins from inside her body. Acne is often caused by a combination of problems like skin bacteria, glandular imbalances, and internal issues (digestive, hormonal, etc). Casey had cancer in her teens and so is still recovering from the effects upon her sex glands and organs from chemotherapy. Drinking water is an excellent way to flush out destructive toxins and heal damaged body tissue.

Little Wins - Kangen Water

I have a friend who has breast cancer and will be losing one of her breasts later this week. She lives far away and I can’t do much to comfort her. I’m guessing she is about 40 years old. My other friend, Irina and I, have been discussing the success we are having with using 2.5 water under our arms to manage our perspiration!

Finally! We have found a way to stop rubbing chemicals or foreign substances into our skin and lymph glands!

It is believed by many experts that the increase in breast cancer is the accumulation of toxins in the underarms from the high use of antiperspirants. Add to that the confining impact of wearing garments like push up bras! But even men are getting breast cancer. We squish and hold toxins inside instead of letting our pores breath and perspire gently. We don’t move around enough and shake off the liquids that are moving around in our body. We don’t let our bodies cool down naturally by perspiring naturally. We unintentionally set ourselves up for tumors and toxic or acidic blood which lead to cancer and other ailments. Here’s a website for more information about this: http://www.essortment.com/lifestyle/deodorantvsan_skfo.htm

Antiperspirants control our body odor with aluminum compounds. These compounds can sneak into our blood stream and head towards our brains causing problems like Alzheimer’s disease. Better choices are deodorants, but they use waxy substances in their base (parabens) and those have been found in breast tissue during autopsies on women who died from breast cancer.

So, its 2.5 pH water for me! It kills odor-causing bacteria and doesn’t gunk up my clothing! I’m feeling liberated!

Little Wins - Alkaline Water

My friend Irina showed me today how drinking a gallon of 9.5 high-alkaline water per day has completely eliminated her dry skin patches on her forehead and all the little wrinkles around her mouth. BUT it was my aunt on my father’s side who surprised me with news that ALL the women on dad’s side had thyroid problems too. It seemed like we all had the same genetically-determined fate!

My doctor dutifully advised me that I would be on medications for the rest of my life and that I might be facing surgery and radiation. We would know more in six months or so. I pushed back, and my beloved endocrinologist was annoyed. It was “obviously hereditary”. What was MY problem?!

I argued that there MUST be a way to see the root cause of this. My family had been wrestling with this disease ALL their adult lives, and I was only getting it NOW? Also, my thyroid was fast, not slow. I asked good questions: What wasn’t I doing? Or what was it that would cause it to crop up now? What other options did I have?

Calmly and respectfully, I DEMANDED that the two of us think it out more analytically; I made it clear that I wasn’t going to buy into his standard solution.

This push back caused my doctor (who I think is brilliant and very caring) to hesitate long enough to remember something important: 30 percent of the population goes into remission before their thyroid problem becomes chronic!

So it might be possible, since I was starting late in life with this problem, that I could go into remission too. “But!” he cautioned, “It will be hard work for the next year.”

And it WAS hard work. It was like driving a car with the emergency brakes on. Many days I felt very physically uneven, unsettled mentally, and it was challenging to feel so physically out of whack. When one gland is off, all the others are put off their balance too. Our glands work together like a well-balanced orchestra. When everyone is in tune it’s a beautiful thing! My orchestra was “out of tune”; I had Graves Disease, and I did not feel like myself.

To stop a fast thyroid, some people can take thyroid blockers until thyroid blood numbers reach normal. I went from one pill to two. Waited for six weeks, looked at the numbers, and went from two pills to three. At four pills, I was starting to struggle to stay awake during the day. Luckily, it was about time to do my six week check up with my doctor.

My tests showed that I now had a medicine-induced, hypothyroid condition. The next step would be to immediately start withdrawing from the four blockers. I went down to three pills and waited for six weeks, then re-tested. Then down to two blockers, waited and tested. Finally, I was down to one pill, and twelve weeks later I was finally down to none. There were six weeks between each phase. Each step was an attempt to find my mental and physical equilibrium before proceeding to the next. I was now off meds but wobbling precariously on a fence between two stages of health.

At “no meds”, I held steady for about six months, but my tests showed that I was still “teetering” (not solidly in remission). My doctor cautiously suggested that “if I wanted to” I could try taking one blocker and see if I felt any better. I DID feel better on one thyroid blocker. The one pill routine continued for another three to four months and it improved my sense of well-being during that time. I felt more grounded and solid mentally and physically with a little medication, and my improvements were sticking.

Then, one day, I woke up ready to stop all blockers. I felt my stability kick in. It was during a time when my young daughter became seriously ill. That upsetting experience seemed to help me reach my natural equilibrium. I was positive that I didn’t need the meds any more. Finally, my orchestra was “in tune”.

So, I stopped taking any pills, and when I retested soon after, the doctor agreed that I had hit a new level.

I have “held” my stability since 2004, and thyroid disease is not something we discuss any more. About one year later, my doctor announced proudly, “I’m not bringing it up any more. You DID IT! It’s over.” So much for genetics!

See my story on blood clotting and c-reactive protein to understand my doctor’s impatience with me when I fought back again (shortly after) over a new health problem! I thank him for helping me become what I am today: an advocate for doctor-patient collaboration and a patient who is prescription-free!

Remember, thyroid disease (hypo or hyper) indicates an auto-immune problem. Once you have one auto-immune problem, you are likely to get others. You have to treat the root cause in order to beat them all (current and future)!

I have several tools to keep my auto-immune system strong.

I drink as much alkaline water as I can (the goal is to drink half my body weight on a daily basis)

I exercise (bike rides and walk) to keep my stress levels low,

I drink whole-fruit mangosteen juice (Xango brand), and

I take Vitamin D supplements (not necessary if you are out in the sun frequently.)

I wasn’t doing any of these when my thyroid kicked up, and they help insure my stability and keep me in remission.

Learn more about Kangen Water.

______________________________________
Resources:
List of autoimmune diseases. Even Schizophrenia is auto immune?! My CRP score was up to 8.3! Taking the new meds was a short-term safety measure.

The doctor explained how the high C-Reactive Protein number works collaboratively to indicate risk when your triglycerides and cholesterol numbers are elevated too. By themselves, my triglycerides and cholesterol numbers were borderline high (and definitely not ideal), but my CRP was very high…all three put me at risk for heart disease, and most imminently, a stroke. I was over 50, so all of this news was in line with the medical model of aging. This slide show demonstrates the risks.

In light of my mother’s recent mini-stroke, and the fact that my dad had died from heart failure, the doctor told me my condition was “genetic and not possible to reverse, even with a better diet”. If you’ve read any of my other articles, then you already know that his verdict was my invitation to defy logic! I had just reversed my thyroid problem so it seemed appropriate for my doctor to also remind me that, “You can’t control everything!” I was now faced with using Lipitor, a controversial statin drug. Lipitor is popular because it also lowers cholesterol and triglycerides at the same time that it helps your CRP numbers come down.
I agreed to take one 10mg tablet of Lipitor, but at the same time, here’s what I asked myself: “If inflammation is at the root cause of the clotting, then what can I do to reduce the inflammation?” I tried diet; I read books. I changed as much as I could, but basically, I wasn’t able to move the needle for over a year.

Then, I heard Dr. Vern Johnson mention that he was working with many CRP patients. He is the doctor for the leaders who run the XanGo Corporation in Utah. I was looking for ideas. We were already purchasing XanGo’s mangosteen juice in my household. It was helping us manage my daughter’s persistent acne and the inflammation that was ravaging her teenage complexion. I started adding one ounce twice a day, before work and after work. At the same time, my doctor was pressuring me to take two Lipitor tablets a day.

I respectfully declined, and he said defiantly that he’d be bringing it up again in six months! Using Lipitor, my CRP number was at .5 (in a safe range) down from 8.3. So I was close to my goal, but not where I needed to be yet. My cholesterol and triglycerides were also improved.

My doctor and I had a power struggle going, so when I returned in six months to hear about my newest blood tests, he caught me off guard by saying that he would quit bugging me about taking an extra Lipitor because “for whatever reason” my CRP had gone down. It was to .4! That meant (to me) that the XanGo was stronger than the Lipitor!

Now, I could see the goal clearly, so I added 1000 daily units of Vitamin D to my plan. I’d read that it helps with blood clotting and C-Reactive Protein, too. If you spend a lot of time in the sun on a daily basis, this would not be an issue for you. But I don’t, so I reasoned that taking the extra Vitamin D might boost the results I was getting.

I didn’t retest my numbers for a year. After 12 months, I took a big leap and stopped taking my Lipitor pill. Likewise, the concentrated sugars in fruit juice are not mentioned, and you never hear about the pH of a drink ever being questioned. I believe it DOES matter which kinds of fluids you put in your body; just like it matters to a plant what kinds of liquids you give it. In a plant, soil matters, pH matters, and the amount and kind of water (or liquid) seriously matters. Human bodies are no different. Our blood is our soil. Our tissues and organs crave the right nutrients.

Why would an M.D. take issue with this or say that with “liquids” it doesn’t matter? Not for any bad reason, I’m sure. With all due respects, the training of an American M.D. emphasizes belief systems and medical practices that often defy logic or intuition. We are coached to override our natural healing abilities and introduce powerful drugs into our systems. More than 800,000 people die annually from complications of prescription dosage and allergies. Many of us are searching for other solutions, and for me, alkaline water has become both a preventative action step and a natural health solution.

Have you ever noticed what the right kind of water pH will do for a plant? Rain water is slightly acidic and many plants seem to “glow” after a good rain. How long does a plant remain in good health after a dose of the wrong pH (soil or water)? Most plants don’t last long on beer, milk or syrupy sodas. Notice that the plant stores don’t ask us to water plants with “liquids”.

Are humans so different? Following this article are several links reinforcing the power of pH for plants and soil; this is my favorite article on this subject: pH Plant Preferences: Greenhouse and Pot Plants

Plants in my garden are gardenias, geraniums, mandavillas and various cactus and succulent types. The cactus, succulents, and gardenias THRIVE in 5.25 pH environments, while the geraniums like a higher alkalinity at 7.5. My garden hose provides water at a pH closest to the needs of the geraniums. And when I water the other three with the acid water that I accumulate from the run-off from my water ionizer, my plants reach for the sky with joy at the 5-5.5 water they get. Plants know when they are getting the right kind of water for their needs.

Why don’t we water plants with sodas, fruit juice, and tea? Because we are clear that plants need water, not “liquids”. They also need a specific pH that provides minerals and nutrients. Our human blood is similar. Because we breathe out, urinate and sweat every day, we need to replenish with water. Then, we need to be sure the water and foods we consume are right for our blood. The pH of our blood, our digestion and our brain is affected by what we consume. Additionally, our blood is very watery, as are our brains, tissues and other organs. (See the article on Your Brain: Your Body’s Drought Manager). If we are chronically dehydrated, then organs, blood, bones, and brain will experience pain, cramps, mental fogginess, and as time goes on…disease. (See the article on the Three Ways to Know You are Experiencing Dehydration).

Your blood type is a factor too! Just like plants require different degrees of sandiness, richness of earth or may require certain nutrients in their soil, our blood needs those variations too. Blood type O’s cannot eat and drink the same foods as Type A, Type B or Type AB without allergic reactions and malfunctioning consequences. Why? Because each blood type already has a defined chemistry unique to its type. Blood Type O is an acidic blood…coffee, orange juice, and milk undermine the health of an O. These foods take an already acidic blood and make it more acidic. This is how important pH is. For more information, see Dr. D’Adamo’s Eat Right 4Your Type books and website at the end of this article.

There is quite a bit of evidence that cancer thrives in an acidic environment. Cancer thrives on sugars, lack of oxygen, and acidic blood. Patients on chemotherapy are put on strict sugarless diets to reduce the foods that fuel cancer. What does that tell you? Already too acidic, the doctors are asking you to become more alkaline.

With every choice we have the opportunity to either promote or challenge our good health. Learning more about the types of beneficial foods that promote a healthy blood pH will help you avoid major diseases. It is the pH of our extracellular fluids where the acidity begins and eventually contaminates our intracellular blood pH. I’ve included excerpts from books (below) to help you quickly find the longer explanations of how this works.

One easy way to avoid all of that (since replenishing the water in your body on a daily basis is very important) is to switch your drinking water to ionized (oxygenated and electrically charged) water. The anti-oxidant properties are high, the water can be easily absorbed, and the ability to raise the pH of your extracellular fluids becomes an easy task. We think we are hungry, or restless, or sleepy when really we are thirsty. We confuse our thirst for something it is not; we would prefer to NOT be thirsty. We admit to each other: “I know I don’t drink enough water”. “I hate getting up at night to go to the bathroom” and, “I don’t really like the taste of water.”

We wait until our need for hydration is so strong that our desire turns into an “ice cold drink”. The most common thirst quenchers are an iced coffee, a cold refreshing beer or an ice cold soda. All of these are extremely dehydrating and acidic. Much of the following information will apply to all three of these choices, but since sodas are the most acidic and dehydrating, this article focus on the pitfalls of drinking soda pop.

I first learned about the pitfalls of sodas 20 years ago when I saw a video explaining how the ingredients of sodas leech out calcium from our bones and teeth along with other vital minerals. At that time, I didn’t completely understand why it did that, but being one who experienced menopause 10 years earlier than is the norm, I didn’t want to set myself up for osteoporosis. So I cut down on my soda intake by 90% at that time, but not completely understanding it yet, I didn’t cut it out entirely until 2008.

I had been making an effort to drink less cola, but not necessarily other clear soft drinks. After all, mom gave us 7Up and Sprite when we were sick in bed as kids, didn’t she? I was giving in to craving sodas periodically, and I certainly wasn’t someone who drank more than 4-6 glasses of water per day. To be honest, the water felt harsh to me, and I never felt that satisfied.

I found it to be a challenge to toggle between drinking water and soda. Water is so boring when compared with the effervescent, icy magic, and sweet taste of a soft drink (or even a beer).

If I had a soda, I would often lose interest in drinking water. So I tried to drink water whenever it was offered at a restaurant and in a meeting. If I put lemon in the water to alkalize it, it definitely made the water softer and more appealing. I still wanted it with ice, although I saw my friends and family passing on the ice and couldn’t imagine why? Sodas (and alcoholic drinks) help us temporarily forget our thirst cravings by numbing our senses with icy coldness.

The ice we put into our drinks is also another enemy in the battle to keep your body pH within a certain numerical range. Your body has two things to do once you add the challenge of ice. It needs to bring its pH back to a 6.5 to 7.5 pH balance from the soda, and the ice requires lots of body heat to neutralize its coldness…heat reduces the alkalinity and drives the pH down. When you introduce any soda (yes, even Mom’s 7Up) you are creating a sudden drop in pH to 2.5. The pH scale is 1 to14 with 7 being the neutral zone. The reason that calcium leeches out of your bones is because it is pulled automatically from your body to quickly neutralize your blood when there is a sudden attack of 2.5 acidity from a soda. That calcium is borrowed from your bones and your teeth. The lower the pH, the higher the amount of calcium that is “borrowed”. If your calcium levels are low, this form of highway robbery can be extremely debilitating to your health.

When we consume high amounts of low pH items (anything below 7.0), we our kicking ourselves back down before we can get up. Our bodies perform best when our blood pH is slightly over 7.0 (7.3 to 7.6 is optimal). During the day, our stomach and blood compensate for the pH fluctuations that occur as we eat and drink. And given normal circumstances, we are able to come back to a (plus or minus) 7.0 range easily.

A pH of 2.5 isn’t even halfway to where we want our blood to be. By comparison, vinegar is at 3.0, and coffee and beer are generally found between 4.5 and 4.8. Food, drinks, stress, and other external conditions, all play havoc with our pH levels, which either help us maintain our good health or put us at risk for illness and disease. Our amazingly resilient bodies bring our blood levels back to balance over and over. But when we consume high amounts of sodas, it’s as if we were holding someone’s face down under water too long and never giving them a chance to catch their breath; eventually, we become tired and weakened. When we force our pH levels down so often, our body eventually reaches a point where it can’t fight back and succumbs to illness or disease. Also, as we age (I like to call it “evolve”) and start to see our 45th birthday, our chemical responses begin to change, and the resources that we previously used to reclaim our pH equilibrium become less effective or non-existent.

A low pH blood level becomes a basis for problems. Acidic blood is a haven for tumors and other chemical imbalances. I water my plants with acid water and they thrive. How many of us have diseases growing in our body because we are too acidic - too often?

Sodas dry you out (dehydrating you like alcohol does). Instead of hydrating your organs, skin, and tissues, sodas are aggressively dehydrating and severely acidifying your blood. The Oxidative Reduction Potential (or ORP) of sodas is somewhere between -350 and -400. The goal is to have a positive ORP number, NOT a negative one. A negative ORP value adds to your aging process. A low ORP makes you “rusty” inside. Think of a cut pear, apple, or avocado that turns brown upon exposure to air. That’s what sodas do to your internal organs and tissues.

When I first learned about this, I thought I would just make sure to drink more alkaline water to counteract my occasional sodas. But then I saw in a demo that it takes 32 sips of high pH water to neutralize ONE sip of soda! A 32:1 ratio is some very daunting math when you consider the amount of nutrients that will be borrowed from your bones and teeth!

Interestingly, reverse osmosis (RO) water isn’t strong in either pH or in ORP. I’ve just spent the last 20 years drinking RO water because of a book that I read by Paul Bragg, a famous health advocate. He was against mineral water, spring water and tap water because he felt the minerals might clog your arteries as you aged. Distilled water and reverse osmosis water are devoid of electrons and minerals. The Japanese call it “dead water”. Bio-electrically, we need the minerals to conduct energy and transport intercellular communication. Minerals are needed for nourishment of your cells. Just like fish can’t thrive in distilled or reverse osmosis water, neither can your cells. A decision we all have to make is what do we believe is right for us? After becoming more involved in acupuncture and meridian health, I believe we need the minerals in water in order to thrive. There will always be many opinions and philosophies around to challenge our thinking. What do you believe?

For me, seeing is believing! If you would like to see some very interesting pH and ORP demonstrations, I have added a Kangen Water DVD in our Products Section on my RX-Free Zone website.

On the DVD, there is a pH demo of 7-8 waters and popular drinks, and then in the Special Features section, there is an ORP demo of 16-20 different clear drinks, including vodka!

Additionally, there is a fascinating article by Dr. Howard Hay (with a feisty rebuttal from Dr. Andrew Weil) in the Article section (below). This is a “must read” for understanding all the sides of this topic.

For even more information about the hazards of drinking coke, read this blog: What Happens To Your Body Within An Hour Of Drinking A Coke. If our bodies are like the delicate eco-system of a fish tank, then our tender cells and tissues are very sensitive to imbalances. Are we killing ourselves off slowly?

When we look at our bodies in this way, then what comes to mind that we might have overlooked or taken for granted in regards to taking care of ourselves? As I read about the importance of chemical balance within a goldfish tank, there are several issues that are common to both humans and fish:

Ammonia build up: fish excrete ammonia-rich waste which can poison their water. As humans we transform the ammonia we produce through our liver into urea which is held and then excreted through our urine. We both need our waste to be diluted and water saturated. We both need beneficial bacteria to help neutralize the acidity of our “tanks”. If the chemistry around us becomes too acidic, we will slowly weaken and die. Likewise, if our cellular environment becomes too alkaline, we become vulnerable to disease and death.

Fish are sensitive to chlorine in their water, as are humans. Just as we carefully remove chlorine from the water of a fish tank, we should filter out the chlorine in our drinking water before we put it into our bodies. Carbon filters work for both fish and humans. A by-product of chlorine called chloramines can be eliminated by aeration of the water. Water ionizing machines also oxygenate water but they do it by electric current (via electrolysis).

Aeration is a way of increasing the oxygen that your fish AND your cells will receive. This process allows the oxygen to diffuse into the water and helps waste gases, such as ammonia, to diffuse out. Aeration also keeps the water agitated and helps keep it from going stale. Ionization does the same thing for human cells. Ionization creates “living water”.

Tank pH:
1) pH that is too low results in acidic conditions. This can be caused from too much fish waste in the water or not enough hydration of a human body. The cells of both species begin to weaken. Routine water changes in tanks help fish, and routine drinking of water to hydrate your cells and blood, helps humans.

Symptoms in goldfish: anorexia, excess slime, isolation, fish resting on the bottom of tank, and then finally blood streaking in the fins, and death. (known as Acidosis)

Symptoms of acidic conditions in humans: dry skin, tumors, mental health related issues, all types of disease, and complications of infections.

2) pH too high results in alkaline conditions. Ammonia is more likely to be toxic when the pH levels are high.

Symptoms for fish: Fish will produce excess slime, and gasp at the surface. Losses can be severe. Once this takes place (alkalosis) it is hard to reverse.

Symptoms for human beings: Stiff joints, muscle cramps, digestive disorders, susceptibility to yeast and fungus infections, insulin stress, and weight gain.

Just as for fish, there are products available to increase your pH levels, as wells as to lower them. There are also pH tests and buffers for improving your pH balance. Like humans, goldfish thrive at a pH balance that is slightly over neutral (7.0). In humans, ideal blood pH is 7.3-7.5. For fish, it is 7.2-7.4 pH.

That doesn’t mean that we must constantly maintain that same pH level, but like a goldfish, we will become ill if we move out of our safe pH range for any length of time. We want our gastric juices to be slightly acidic in order to break down foods. But generally our blood should remain in the proper range if we want to stay healthy. Just like fish, our waste must move through us and perspire from our skin in order to remain at the proper pH.

Salt Density is largely a fish tank term and it refers to the amount of salt in the tank water. Fresh water fish will not survive in salt water for any length of time. However, adding a small amount of salt to the tank will not kill a goldfish! It can actually perk up the fish’s immune system and will kill any parasites. It is important to realize that the more water a human consumes, the more critical salt becomes to replenishing salts and minerals that are needed for interacting with brain chemistry and energy.

You may be a person who has been told not to consume salt. Although consuming salt may be a problem if your fluid levels are out of balance, is it the salt or is it your body’s deep tissue dehydration that is at the bottom of your illness? If you drink more water, dilute the bit of salt you take, could you potentially reduce your blood pressure naturally?

Often we are not attacking the root cause of a problem, like high blood pressure, when we don’t fully hydrate (fill our fish tank) first. How can your heart and blood (fish tank pumps and filters) work efficiently if there isn’t enough water? There will be more about this in a future article. In the meantime:

Are you monitoring your blood pressure?

Do you consume enough water to fully hydrate your body, blood, and organs?

Are you passing your body waste on a normal basis and is it clear and healthy (or dark, heavy and odorous)?

Do you know your blood pH? It is somewhere between 7.3 and 7.5?

Do you monitor your diet, drinks and stress levels to know that your pH fluctuations are not stressing your “tank” eco-system needlessly?

Are you relatively disease and illness free most of the time?

If you aren’t answering “yes” to these questions, then are you being fully accountable for your good health?

Resources:

This article by Janet Hull gives more detail and some great ideas for improving your “tank”.

I have recommended these articles previously from detoxifynow.com, they are comprehensive, controversial, and will provide the detail that I omit.

var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? How long it’s going to take depends on how ready your body is to resolve the problem. My experience (so far) is that many people’s bodies have a “Do It!” response. When you finally give your body what it’s missing, you will make improvements pretty quickly.

I once gave some water to a guy friend who had a terribly painful and bloody skin problem. I asked him to drink two gallons of alkaline water in six days. He drank half the amount in 14 days. I never really understood what happened, but he had already reversed his illness 99% of the way in twice the time and half the dose. All that remained was some faint dry skin where the bloody scabs had been. He was kind of annoyed with me. Could this be so simple? What kind of trickery was this water? My article: Thirst for the Worst addresses why alkaline water is not trickery.

I’ve given water to people with cancer: lung and liver cancer to be exact. In 2-6 weeks, when they went for pre-op exams, the tumors could not be found. Their test scores were normal. To understand more fully how this could happen, you’ll need to read the article titled: My Plants & Your Cancer Love Acidic Drinks.

But here’s the bottom line. If dehydration is truly at the root cause of your illness or disease, hydrating yourself should be your first action. You need hydration that is alkaline, preferably ionized, and preferably micro-clustered so absorption is easy.

The issues that could delay instant results are:

Tissue regeneration (if you have certain auto-immune diseases, and they can be reversed…some can’t…it may take some time to rebuild tissue health)

Dormant healing responses that may take time to “awaken” again
Time for all tissues of a tumor to shrink away

Not consuming enough alkaline water and food to balance out the acidic foods and drinks you intake

Continuing to drink soft drinks (which require more than 32 times the high alkaline water to neutralize the acidity of one ounce of soda)

Losing weight might kick in slowly if your whole body needs to become fully hydrated first

After your blood sugar levels out, you might still have more layers of diabetes damage to heal.

But you should see a glow in your face and your skin right away, and you will probably feel notably more patient and relaxed immediately. Deep-tissue hydration is the chance of a lifetime to feel and look younger, and to transform your health for the rest of your life. Offer it to your body and you may experience dramatic recovery and a second chance for a healthful life.

Timi Gleason is a leadership coach specializing in a step-by-step focus on reaching long-term goals. But you don’t have to be devoid of any water, or in a hot climate to be chronically dehydrated. Not drinking enough water; and not drinking the right kind of water can make us sick. Many of us have been unknowingly adjusting for most of our lives to deep-cell thirst and fluid acidity.

Our resilient, magnificent bodies cover for our ignorance. Many people with chronic health problems have become sick, adjusted, been well for awhile (or may have never gotten well) have become sick again, and adjusted again, until here they are…in reality, chronically dehydrated…but according to the U.S. medical model they are a person who has a heart problem, has cancer, or is a diabetic; or is quite simply suffering from psoriasis; or is a person with one or more auto-immune disorders. Once you have one, you are susceptible to them all, and on and on.

Is it possible that at the root of most of these illnesses are some very thirsty cells in your blood, in your organs, and in your muscles? Does this explain why it is frequent to see “miracle recoveries” from any one of these diseases almost overnight when the right kind of water or hydrating liquid is introduced…including some of these miracle juices?

Stage 1 Dehydration - Impatience and Irritability (or How to Avoid Anger Management classes)

Your brain needs water (with minerals)…in order to conduct electrical impulses. These bio-electric commands automatically regulate body temperature, process information, help us move muscles, automatically breathe, help us eat and digest, and cause us “to feel” both physically and emotionally. When there isn’t enough water available to your brain, your brain basically shuts down to conserve energy. Stage 1 Dehydration mostly occurs at a FEELING level. Thus, you get impatient responses like: “I don’t have time for this!” “I don’t know!” “Who cares!?” Other symptoms include anxiety, depression, feeling flushed, disturbed sleep, and the craving of sodas or alcohol.

Stages 2 and 3 Dehydration – The next level of symptoms begins where our most common and most creative television commercials and memorable jingles end. Phase 2 and 3 problems are summed up by a “Plop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is!” approach. Early in our lives we learn to accept that many “normal” illnesses, such as being born a sick child, or experiencing disruptive chemical imbalances, or natural aging, must be treated with chemicals (prescription and over the counter –OTC- drugs). Everyday examples are indigestion, acid reflux, asthma, allergies, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, constipation, diarrhea, migraine headaches, colitis pain, debilitating pain from fibromyalgia, auto-immune disease and then ultimately, all types of cancer, heart attack, and even bulimia and morning sickness from pregnancy. Do you suffer from any of these?

Over a 110 million Americans rely on pain medications in order to get through a normal day. If you think about it, where does pain come from when it’s not caused by an infection or an injury? Inflammation and pain have at their root (their core) a lack of enough, and the right kind, of water.

We have learned to take these inconveniences in our stride. Mild pain, shortness of breath (without a heart problem), allergic reasons, post nasal drip, indigestion, obesity and even the onset of blood sugar problems just seem “par for the course” when everybody else has them too. We gladly purchase OTC drugs because they are available and affordable. We’re happy when it’s not a prescription drug. But at some point, that becomes unavoidable, as you slip into a black hole of “dis-ease” and desperation. The U.S. model tells us that some things can’t be avoided. Genetic and inherited disease is considered “fate” in the medical model that we use in this country. There’s nothing you can do about them. But have you ever thought about why OTC drugs may work? They require you to “drink a glass of water” with them. We drink it because we don’t want to burn our tender throats with potent drugs, so we wash the pills down. But what else happens? We hydrate too. This is not to say that the pills don’t do their magic, but it does suggest that water plays a different role than you might have previously considered.

Many of these illnesses started when you were a kid. Maybe you missed sports because you were always ill or allergic or short of breath. I’ve had autoimmune disease (visibly) since I was eight years old. That means I’ve been dehydrated for decades and decades. How about you?

Read the article: Self-Correct & Become Healthy Again

Alka Seltzer Commercial: http://www.videosift.com/video/Plop-plop-fizz-fizz-oh-what-a-relief-it-is-Alka-Seltzer

Celebrex Commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GvYI4VdVEI&feature=related
Pay attention to the announcer droning on and on about all the health disclaimers! Like the moon creates tides, our body fluids ebb and flow under the control of our brain. Since the brain is 70% water and HAS to intake enough fluids (water) to function properly, it borrows water from anywhere in your body that it wants. If it deprives an organ or muscle or tissue of its hydration, it tends to create inflammation and pain where ever it has stolen the water. And do you know what else? It repositions the water randomly, so sometimes you’ll experience pain in your joints, in your ankles, and other times in your muscles or through dryness on your skin.

The interesting thing about brain drought management is that there are at least three different symptom levels that indicate drought problems in our bodies. The first indication of a shortage of water is IRRITIBILITY. Whoops! Who hasn’t wondered why they were having a bad day? Ever have a day when you are snapping at your loved ones? Or you “can’t think”? Next time, try drinking some good water to escape that rut.

See the article: Three Ways to Know You Are Experiencing Dehydration for more information about symptoms of thirst and deep-cell dehydration.

Drought Management Books by F. Does it take a lot of work? It could, or it could also be easy and instant too.

You won’t know until you start. Either way, its always worth it. It may come to you in the form of improved sugar levels, less pain from inflammation, or even greater vitality. I know people who have had cancer completely disappear in four weeks, and pain that they’ve suffered from (for decades) disappear almost over night.

How? They accidently attacked root cause. I say accidently because they were only trying one of my ideas and it just happened to work. Their success was confirmed by their bodies and their pre-surgical lab tests. In the cancer situations, one was liver cancer and the other was a melanoma. No chemo, no surgery, and no drugs were necessary. We attacked acidity and hydration in both cases. And it worked very quickly.

Is it always acidity and dehydration? Yes, most of the time. But sometimes we need help from natural anti-inflammatory products or there is a nutrient deficiency that is at the root of the illness.

Your body will tell you pretty quickly when you are on the right track. The possibility of “positive results in 30-90 days” is very feasible. Your health problems may not be completely gone, but you will most likely be sure that your health has started to turn itself around.

Timi Gleason is a leadership coach specializing in a step-by-step focus on reaching long-term goals.
